The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) which aims to ensure the safe supply of food into USA was enacted into law in 2011.FDA has announce a total of $21.8 million funding to support 42 states in successful implementation of product Safety rule under FSMA.
Based on the number of farms growing the covered products the states were classified into 5 tiers to determine the funding distribution. Large farms have to comply with certain aspects of the product safety rule beginning January 2018. The funding is for 5 years subject to availability of funding from the Congress.
FDA has indicated its commitment to educate people on a continuous basis to make them aware about the provisions and expectation while FSMA rules are being implemented
