The FDA is warning consumers not to use close to 50 male enhancement or weight loss products. These products have been found to contain hidden ingredients and may pose health risks. Products were purchased by the FDA through Amazon and eBay and testing found active pharmaceutical ingredients not included on the label. Some of these ingredients were found in prescription drugs as well. Serious side effects could come arise from these products and could interfere with other medications or supplements a consumer could be taking.
From the products purchased, all 26 products from Amazon and 20 out of 25 products from eBay contained undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients. Some of these undeclared active ingredients included sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, sibutramine, desmethylsibutramine, phenolphthalein and/or fluoxetine. A lot of these active ingredients are for use in FDA-approved prescription drugs, which are restricted to use under the supervision of a licensed health care professional.
The FDA has included a link to their tainted products database to help consumers identify nearly 1,000 of these potentially dangerous products.
